Employers and stakeholders from across the housing sector and business community attended the event to show their commitment to working together to tackle worklessness.
Employer Pool is a new employment business being delivered by Fusion21, it’s aim is to work with the unemployed and hard to reach a secure them work with Employers who join the ‘Pool’ of Employers.
The Employer Pool is a pool of employers who join up to the scheme by signing the Employer Pool Charter. The aim of the employer’s within the pool is to recruit workers for their job vacancies from the local community.
All Employers operating in the pool are showing their commitment to working with Fusion21 to adopt socially responsible recruitment activities that will have a direct impact in the communities they work in.
The real pull of the Employer Pool is its ability is to secure local jobs for local people, and the knowledge that as a social enterprise- any surplus is reinvested back into further job creation initiatives.
The approach behind the pool is to allow employers to ‘share’ resources, helping employers to create jobs without having to give out permanent contracts and help to create apprentices through a shared apprenticeship scheme.
Jan Agger, Head of Training & Employment at Fusion21 commented, “We have created the Employer Pool as an innovative way of creating as many job opportunities as possible, creating work opportunities for people to prevent them getting caught in long periods of inactivity.
We had great success in putting people into temporary work thought the Future Jobs Fund Scheme and helped to secure over a third of people permanent employment. We have created the Employer Pool in part a as legacy to this scheme, and hope that we can replicate this success through the Employer Pool.”
She further added, “We (Fusion21) feel that it is about going that extra mile to not only help people find employment, but to also build upon their experience to positively shape their futures.”
John Myers, Employer Services Director, National Apprenticeship Service, also spoke to over 80 employers who attended on the day to encourage them to work with Employer Pool.
He told them, “Working with Fusion21 in the Employer Pool will allow employers the opportunity to share resources and create apprenticeships. By working with the Employer Pool you can work with an apprentice for duration of their placement, and when you aren’t available to create work for that person due to economic/ contract restraints- you can release them back into the pool.
Apprenticeships are a viable alternative to University and are a great way to develop a highly skilled workforce; over 87% of employers believe apprentices make their company more productive. They are also a great way for young people to ‘learn while they earn’ and gain experience with a range of organisations.”
