Research & Development

Fusion21 recognise the need for good quality Research and Development and continually invest in new innovative projects.

We are currently partnering with the Salford Centre for Research and Innovation at The University of Salford to deliver two Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with backing from the Government’s Technology Strategy Board. These 2 year programmes will produce toolkits to assist our clients in evaluating options for retrofit across their stock portfolio and to engage effectively with their residents about the options for and benefits of retrofit measures.

Technical and Commercial Toolkit

The primary purpose of this toolkit is to help ascertain what energy efficiency improvement upgrades are best suited to the housing stock managed by Fusion21’s clients. To achieve this successfully, the innovative toolkit will help determine the following;

• Baseline energy profile of the existing properties
• The most appropriate combination of measures suited to different house/construction types
• How best to deploy improvement measures over time
• Dependencies, triggers, opportunities and issues to consider
• Carbon cost effectiveness of measures and percentage carbon reduction attainable
• Best value measures, Return on Investment and payback periods
• Current policy and regulation, sector targets, and incentive schemes

For further information about this particular toolkit please contact our KTP associate, Luke Smith, on 0845 308 2321, or email Luke.Smith@Fusion21.co.uk

Resident Engagement Toolkit

The primary purpose of this toolkit is to develop a range of interventions to help support Fusion21’s clients ensure a more positive and higher take up of energy efficiency measures and upgrades by residents.

Technological solutions to domestic energy reduction are insufficient without the cooperation of inhabitants and a key aspect of this Knowledge Transfer Partnership is to understand how to effectively engage with residents and to develop appropriate support material.

Residents will require support and guidance prior, during and after the installation of retrofit measures. Without this, domestic retrofit is unlikely to maximise its potential to achieve significant CO2 reductions from homes. Through extensive research and consultation with residents and resident facing staff, once launched, this toolkit will help to overcome such complex problems and in-use issues and encourage residents to take a common, approving decision to take up energy efficiency measures and upgrades

For further information about this particular toolkit please contact our KTP associate, Sharon Chahal, on 0845 308 2321, or email Sharon.Chahal@Fusion21.co.uk.
